For newcomers to the sport we have set aside Tuesday evenings at Redmarshall flying site to teach people how to fly. Every Tuesday evening during the summer there will be instructors available at Redmarshall with their own training aircraft. There will be a small charge of £1.00 per flight to cover costs.

The flying is done by a ‘buddy box' system. Both instructor and pupil have a transmitter linked by

a cable and control can be passed to the pupil by the flick of a switch and likewise should the pupil get into difficulties the instructor can regain control instantly by reversing the process so building confidence quickly.

We have taken a structured approach to training and students are given their own ‘pilots log'. At the end of each flying session the instructor will comment as to how much progress has been made and which areas need practice.

The club have taken the stance that a pilot cannot fly solo until he or she has passed the ‘A certificate' this is a test recognised by the BMFA and has been set as the Club's minimum standard to fly on his or her own. Newcomers should also take tome to read and familiarise themselves with the club rules.

Teesside Model Flying Club operates a ‘children and vulnerable adult protection' policy. Four of our instructors have been CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) checked. This an industry standard required by persons in contact with children including social workers and childminders. Parents looking to introduce young children to the hobby should contact any of the club-approved instructors. (See below)

If you are interested in taking up this hobby either contact a committee member, a club instructor or come down to either of the club flying fields. You will find pilots there on most fine days and in the summer almost every evening. The most popular time is weekends and the majority of members turn up around 2.00pm on both Saturday and Sunday. We are a friendly bunch and advice is given freely.

Do not attempt to fly on your own. Not only could this be an expensive mistake but it could have serious consequences for the club's position in the local area.

How to get involved?

Either come down to the Redmarshall Site on a Tuesday evening, any time after 6.00pm or if you wish to make prior arrangements telephone (after 6.00pm please)  or e-mail (anytime) any of the Instructors below.
